Our ultra modern 4500 sq. foot, full service hospital was established in 1982. We also provide veterinary supervised boarding and professional pet grooming, as well as nutritional and behavioral counseling.

"Caring People Caring for Pets"

Wellness Exams and Preventative Vaccinations - The best medicine for your pet is preventative medicine. Since all aspects of your pet's life affect his or her health, we want to help you with more than vaccinations, tests for parasites, and the physical exam your pet needs each year. We talk to you about your pet's dental needs, proper exercise and training, the best diet available for your pet's age and condition, and various techniques for correcting behavior problems. We encourage our pets' owners to participate in health care decisions.

Medical Care - If your pet is ill, we will arrange to see him or her the day that you call. If your pet is seriously ill, the doctors will see your pet immediately.

Pet Medical Center of Springfield is a well-equipped modern veterinary hospital. In order to diagnose your pet's illness, we have some of the finest and advanced instruments and techniques available. Our hospital is equipped with a modern x-ray machine, an EKG apparatus, and an in-house blood and serum analyzer. When blood tests are required, our in-house analyzer provides the doctors with immediate and accurate results. Since our pets' blood test results are only minutes away, our doctors and staff can begin treatment almost immediately.

Treatment of most illnesses begins at the hospital. Follow up care is generally continued at home. Our doctors and staff are always available to help and support you during the home care portion of the treatment. For some illnesses, your pet needs to stay at the hospital for fluid therapy, metabolic stabilization, wound treatment, or other procedures that require direct veterinary supervision. During the hospitalization period, the doctors speak with you daily about your pet's progress. At Pet Medical Center of Springfield, the entire staff is dedicated to making your pet feel comfortable and secure during his or her hospital stay.

Surgery - Surgery is performed using the most current and safest anesthetics available. Sophisticated monitors are used to help the doctors and surgical assistants detect any irregularities before they become serious problems. A partial list of surgeries that we perform include (but not limited to):

  • Ovariohysterectomy / Castration
  • Lacerations and abscesses
  • Mass Removal / Biopsies
  • Anal Sacculectomy
  • Intestinal Surgery
  • Cystotomy, Urethrostomy
  • General Ophthalmic Surgery

We help your pet safely recover from surgery with comprehensive pain management, careful nursing care by our trained staff, special diets, and most importantly, gentle individualized attention and encouragement.

Boarding - Pet Medical Center of Springfield offers veterinary supervised boarding as well as a walking service for pets needing additional exercise. The same veterinary assistants who care for the hospitalized animals also care for our boarding kennel guests. The assistants are trained to recognize changes in your pet's appetite and attitude, and they work hard to keep pets clean and comfortable. We also board pets who have ongoing medical problems and who need medication and / or observation. Reservations for boarding should be made well in advance, especially if around major holidays.

Grooming - Our professional groomer is trained to groom purebred and mixed-breed dogs and cats. She also works with the doctors to help treat skin diseases and external parasites.
Some Home Grooming Tips for your Dog

Senior Pet Care and Geriatric Pet Evaluations - Great strides have been made in addressing the needs of older pets. Veterinarians today are well equipped with knowledge, products, and diagnostic tools to identify age related problems and formulate realistic strategies to allow our pets to live longer and richer lives. We offer a specially priced "Senior Care" evaluation package for our older patients. Check out the Senior Care Area of our Website.

Dental Care - Good dental care is as important for your pet as it is for you. Proper dental care not only prevents bad breath and periodontal disease but also prevents infection spreading through the blood stream to your pet's liver, kidneys and heart. This bacterial shower can lead to permanent organ damage affecting your pet's overall health.

Dental services that we offer include:

  • Dental Prophylactic Cleaning
  • Polishing
  • Dental Radiology (X-rays)
  • Extractions
  • Periodontal Care / Surgery
  • Pain Control
  • Oral Surgery
  • Puppy / Kitten Dental Evaluations

Large Well-Stocked Pharmacy - We stock an extensive drug inventory. Medications can be conveniently dispensed before leaving the clinic. Some of the supplies that we offer include:

  • Prescription Medications
  • Heartworm Prevention
  • Nutritional Supplements
  • Routine Pet Care and Grooming Products
  • Premium Quality Diets (prescription and non prescription)

Early Morning Pet Drop-Offs - You may drop your pet off at the hospital and one of our staff members will record an appropriate history. Your pet will be examined by a doctor who will contact you by phone with a diagnosis and recommended treatment plan.

Special Programs for Pets Adopted from Local Animal Shelters and Welfare Organizations - Pet Medical Center of Springfield offer free initial physical examinations and low cost spays and neuters for pets adopted from local animal welfare organizations.

Kitten Adoptions - Pet Medical Center of Springfield is closely associated with two local cat and kitten adoption agencies. We provide low cost veterinary service for these organizations. We usually have 2-4 kittens on display in our reception area. These kittens need homes and can be adopted through Four Paws Rescue Team. Our hospital also works with Feline Foundation of Greater Washington. Along with providing low cost veterinary care, the hospital provides space and personnel (on a regular basis) for pet mini adoption fairs.
